High Contrast, born in nearby Penarth, released True Colours on Hospital Records in 2002 and later chose music for the athletes' parade at the London 2012 Olympics. The city's scene grew up on pirate station Bass FM and the Looney Tunes record shop.

Cardiff label PullUp Recordings puts on nights at Tramshed, and District, Vaults Cardiff and Depot carry the bigger tours. The Great Hall at the students' union hosts the large Halloween raves.
